Background info.:
EARTH DAY is Saturday, April 22, 2017. A number of our members have mentioned that our monthly hike in April conflicts with Earth Day celebrations in Balboa Park on Sunday, April 23. So, instead of a hike this month, we've opted to encourage our hikers to attend the Balboa Park Earth Day events and festivities on Sunday April 23, 2017, between 10 AM and 5 PM, all around the park.

BALBOA PARK EARTHFAIR celebrations will feature more than 300 exhibitors, special theme areas, a Food Pavilion, a special Children's Activity Area, four entertainment venues, an eHome exhibit area, the Children’s Earth Parade at 10:30 AM, the eARTh Gallery arts and crafts show, and the Cleaner Car Concourse.

Things you'll find at EarthFair: traditional conservation organizations, wildlife preservation groups, products made from natural and organically grown crops, organic gardening information, alternative energy vehicles, ecotourism opportunities, many alternative and traditional health care products and services, pet adoption services, clean air and clean water products, rainforest preservation groups, and many more!

The trump administration is actively dismantling all the positive accomplishments of the EPA, Clean Air Act, Wildlife Conservation and many more such similar groups, in order to fill the pockets of corporate greed. It's time for us to take serious action to combat their attack on our environment and our world. Educate yourself about topics like recycling and zero waste, water conservation, getting off the grid with solar and wind, planting more trees and drought-tolerant landscapes.

As a hiker you can carry an empty plastic trash bag to pick up trash along the trail when you're out hiking. Stay on marked trails to cut down on erosion. Volunteer to work on trail repairs and refurbishment. Use your imagination and find some time to help make it a better world, both locally, nationally and globally. Don't wait any longer. The environmental clock is ticking. Our Home Planet hangs in the balance.
